SaveGirl Uganda is Vantage Foundation's very first project. Founded in 2021, it began as an online crowdfunding campaign to buy and distribute sanitary pads to young women in rural areas. Over time, we restructured the initiative into a mentorship and skills programme that addresses the root causes of period poverty.
Through SaveGirl, young women and men gain life skills, financial literacy and the confidence to pursue their goals. We maintain follow-up contact with the young people we reach, and the feedback has been truly heart warming and uplifting.
Community need & objectives
Tackle period poverty, build confidence and equip young women and men in rural and run-down areas with life skills, financial literacy and mentorship.
Activities
- Mentorship sessions with trained volunteers
- Distribution of sanitary pads and menstrual health education
- Life-skills and financial literacy workshops
- Follow-up and regular contact with participants
Results
- Reached about 500 young women and men in rural and run-down areas
- Increased confidence and menstrual hygiene awareness
- Shift from one-off pad distribution to durable mentorship
