SaveGirl Uganda is Vantage Foundation's very first project. Founded in 2021 by co-founder Kauthar Wangi, it began as an online crowdfunding campaign to buy and distribute sanitary pads to young women in rural areas. Over time, we restructured the initiative into a mentorship and skills programme that addresses the root causes of period poverty.
Through SaveGirl, young women and men gain life skills, financial literacy and the confidence to pursue their goals. We maintain follow-up contact with the young people we reach, and the feedback has been truly heart warming and uplifting.
Since 2021, SaveGirl Uganda has been supported by Girl Power USA, a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The two organisations jointly hosted a youth conference on financial literacy and career education in Bushenyi in September 2022.
